The Media Revolution

Steve Jobs's passing in October 2011 led to an outpouring of tributes across the world, the likes of which have probably never been seen for the CEO of a tech company. One of the reasons was evident – as head of Apple, Jobs transformed lifestyles of people across the world. Starting with the iPod, Apple delivered music to people's fingertips and the advent of the iPhone, Apple TV, iPad and other game changing devices gave people instant access to books, videos and photos as well. A vital part of Apple's strategy was the iTunes store, where consumers can buy music, movies, TV shows and books with a single click and enjoy their purchases wherever they are.

Along with the mobile device revolution, an equally if not more important revolution has been taking place – that of content sourcing. With the Internet becoming more and more mainstream, a huge number of songs and videos are being purchased or streamed online. iTunes has had over 16 billion song downloads as of October 2011. Amazon offers song downloads as well, with increasing success over the last few years.

Downloaded purchases, however, mean consumers have to have digital storage media, manage their music, keep backups and share music across different computers. Some companies realised this – and got into the business of streaming music. Spotify, a Swedish based company offers on-demand access to millions of songs for a very reasonable $10 a month. Pandora, which recently went public at a $3 billion valuation, lets you seed stations with the songs you like and then plays similar songs. It offers a free ad based version as well as a paid ads free version. For videos, Apple, Amazon and Netflix have varying models of delivery – Amazon and Netflix let you stream videos to your laptop and Apple allows downloads.

One major problem with digital delivery is quality – most songs and videos are compressed to allow for maximal use of available bandwidth. Moreover, even if all the content you could possibly want is now in the palm of your hand, would you really be satisfied listening to streamed songs on your laptop's tinny speakers, or watching videos on a small iPad screen? This is where high quality audio and video equipment come in.

Recommending projectors that use technologies such as video upscaling, the best amplifiers and high fidelity speakers to provide you with an immersive experience that makes even compressed media look and sound fantastic is what Cinebels does best. Of course, connecting laptops to all these devices and figuring out how they all work together can be daunting, but with our specialist sales and technical teams you can rest assured you will get all the media you want, as easily as possible and you will soon be enjoying the highest quality music and video. So visit us at www.cinebels.com and walk into a near by showroom today. Help us continue the revolution Steve Jobs started.

The Changing Face of Home Entertainment in India

Audio video media has always been one of the primary sources of entertainment in India. It wouldn’t be an overstatement to say that we have always been an out-and-out movie watching country. Bollywood is, today, synonymous with main-stream Indian culture, both across the country and around the world and reflects our love and passion for the big screen.

The growth in India's economy over the last twenty years has led to a change in mindset of the Indian consumer as well, and one area that has seen significant growth is the market for luxuries. This is evident by the variety of fancy cars, the number of large homes and the branded apparel visible in cities across the country.

Entertainment has benefited as well. Going to the movies used to be considered a luxury, but no more. The new standard in luxury entertainment now has to do with the technology of entertainment delivery, as opposed to the act of watching a movie to enjoy oneself.

It is now evident that the next frontier of entertainment for the urban and semi-urban rich is home cinema. Watching a movie in a theatre is a static, pre-planned experience, whereas home entertainment is on demand and at your doorstep. Today, the technologies to transform home cinema into real cinema are widely available, and moving into the mainstream of consumer consciousness.

Multi-channel digital sound with high definition picture has made one of the biggest positive changes in the entertainment industry since the invention of stereo. With consumers developing more refined tastes, it is easier to sell a high quality home-theatre ranging from two to fifty lakhs than a higher quality two-channel system costing one fourth as much! Everybody gains – the industry sells six speakers instead of two, as well as the associated electronics, production houses sell blue rays discs and consumers enjoy better quality of entertainment.

Fortunately, not all of these systems are prohibitively expensive anymore. There are one stop shops like Cinebels (www.cinebels.com), offering a wide range of audio and home cinema solutions. One can find solutions for home cinema speaker systems starting at Rs.30,000/- and going upto Rs.45,00,000/-. Additionally, one can choose from an array of electronics, projectors and accessories to match the speakers to personalize ones home entertainment requirements.

Today, you, the Indian consumer, have the means and opportunity to experience real cinema in your home. So walk into a Cinebels outlet, and let the show begin!

IPTV and Home Entertainment

What is IPTV?

IPTV is television delivered through service operators’ lines using the Internet Protocol.  Whereas traditionally television has been delivered simply through broadcast (transmission from one point to all connected receivers), IPTV allows for transmission via unicast (single receiver) or multicast (multiple but not all receivers) methods.  Additionally, IPTV allows for bi-directional communication, enabling service providers to generate much more customized content for their subscribers.

Much of the internet backbone in terms of high bandwidth fiber has been laid in countries like India and the US – the real bottleneck in Internet speeds is in the so-called “last mile” to homes. As last mile bandwidths increase over the next few years, it will be possible to deliver high definition audio and video content over the Internet to IPTV enabled homes. A single method of delivery and source for a consumer's favorite movies and songs is extremely convenient, and more and more consumers will gravitate toward this model. This will also mean that a person will use a single termination point in their home for both video and audio – and will expect high quality equipment to receive and render an outstanding experience.

Why IPTV?

There are several main drivers that are enabling the emergence of IPTV:

Pressure on telephone companies to seek non-voice revenue sources.  Before the rise of the internet, telephone companies were able to hold monopolies over telephone lines and charge high prices for voice calls.  However, the emergence of broadband and wireless substitutes such as Vonage and other voice over IP (VOIP) services are threatening their primary revenue source.  Telephone companies that provide internet services are also being hurt by increasing demand for high-bandwidths at a low cost, forcing them to seek alternate sources of revenue.

Opportunity to capitalize on a large pay-TV market. Telephone companies are looking toget their share of profits from this lucrative business, especially with their already-extensive nationwide wire coverage.  There are also several new potential revenue streams in advertisement and other interactivity through the two-way capabilities of IPTV.

Maturing technology.  Compression technology maturation (H.264, VC1) as well as bandwidth capability increases are making it feasible to offer compelling IPTV services.

Next generation IPTV architecture is now needed to create the most attractive product for the consumer.  Customers are looking for that next generation IPTV experience bringing:

  • End user quality of experience (smooth, high-resolution, lag-free)
  • Content attractiveness (programming variety, interactivity, shopping, etc)
  • Complexity of installation and operation (set-top box and home equipment performance)
  • Price competitiveness (best value for least price)

Video is not the only thing that can be delivered in this manner – hi quality audio on demand, with additional benefits such as song lyrics can be as well.  Entertainment being delivered over the Internet will change lifestyles, and we at Cinebels are excited to be at the forefront of that change, providing immersive video and audio solutions for a memorable home entertainment experience, one you will never forget!

Klipsch Floorstanding Speakers (Model P 37F)

The Klipsch Floorstanding Speakers Designed with an eye toward home interior and furniture designs, the P-37F has a signature style that blends classic Klipsch audio and a clean, contemporary look.

The floorstander’s unique enclosure hints at the power and performance inside, while maintaining a high degree of sophistication and beauty. The horizontal linear grain and absence of visible fasteners allows the P-37F to elegantly complement your furniture and décor.

When in place, the two magnetically attached speaker grilles are designed to subtly reveal the classic Klipsch horn at the top and the hybrid drivers below; those who desire a more functional, powerful look may choose to remove them entirely to display the components. An adjustable brushed aluminum floating base supports the cabinet at just four points, rather than the entire area of the base. This raises the cabinet from floor level but maintains absolute stability.

From every angle, every perspective, the P-37F speaker is how luxury should look. It’s a treat for the senses even before you hear it.
